About The Museum of Litter

An independent, non-commercial resource — here's what that means.

The Museum of Litter is an independent, non-commercial educational resource about litter and environmental cleanliness. The name is a play on an uncomfortable truth: the litter we drop becomes a kind of accidental museum of modern life, scattered across streets, parks, beaches and rivers. Our aim is to help people understand that problem and, above all, to act on it.

What we cover

We explain what litter is, where it comes from, and the damage it does to wildlife, water and communities. Alongside that, we publish practical, responsible how-to guides for the things that genuinely help: organising a community litter-pick, cleaning a beach safely, picking up as you go, and cutting waste at the source.

What we are not

We are not a charity, a campaign, a shop, or a government body. We don't collect donations, sell anything, or run events. We're also not connected to any earlier project that may have used a similar name. Everything here is general educational information — for rules, collection services and organised events in your area, always check local and official sources.

How we write

We stick to widely accepted, stable facts about litter and the environment, and we avoid inventing precise statistics or quoting studies we can't stand behind. Where something depends on local rules or personal choice, we say so.
